Summer LISTEN Camp
The FSU Speech and Hearing Clinic hosts an annual Summer Listen Camp for children grades K-5 who have hearing loss and use and listening and spoken language approach for communication. With today’s technology, 80-90% percent of families are choosing amplification and a listening and spoken language approach. So rather than learning sign language and attending special schools, these children are integrated in the hearing world. There is only one problem… thanks to the improved technology in hearing devices, these children are going to their home zone schools and may be the only child with hearing loss at their school. They need to connect with other kids who are like them. Our camp gives them the opportunity to do just that!
The campers receive listening and speech-language therapy throughout the week and participate in exciting camp activities such as arts and crafts, music and dance, and outdoor activities. The campers also have the opportunity to be with other children who have hearing loss and use a listening and spoken language communication approach.
Camp is led by a licensed speech-language pathologist who is also certified as a listening and spoken language specialist in auditory verbal therapy. Graduate students from the Communication Science and Disorders school at FSU serve as camp counselors or “buddies” for the campers.

The Communication Corner
The Communication Corner is a state-of-the-art learning environment that was created to provide center-based learning for whole child development.
The Pediatric Language Program (PLP) is the first program to be implemented in the Communication Corner. We are developing additional collaborative programs to be implemented in this space to enhance language, auditory, and social development in a multisensory learning environment. We thank the SPARK campaign's support which allowed us to develop the Communication Corner.

Aphasia Support Group
Our Aphasia support group provides any individual with aphasia (newly diagnosed or chronic) and their families a safe and supportive environment to: socialize and make meaningful connections with other individuals who have aphasia, practice speech and language in an inclusive environment, and learn or further your education in aphasia.

Parkinson's Support at Rock Steady Boxing
We team up with Sweat Therapy Fitness to offer Parkinson's Support through Rock Steady Boxing, led by a certified RSB instructor. During the workouts, participants are encouraged to use a loud and intentional voice to strengthen their vocal abilities. Our students also create and guide cognitive activities to boost mental and physical well-being. We also offer caregiver classes to ensure everyone gets the support they need.

Aural Rehabilitation Class
As part of our continued goal of giving back to the community, our clinic offers Aural Rehabilitation classes for patients with hearing loss, hearing aids, assistive technology or are in the process of considering any of these. This four week course educates and informs the patients about hearing loss, the emotional effects of hearing loss and better communication strategies for noisy or difficult listening environments. The classes also cover topics of healthy aging and the relationship between hearing loss, aging and the effects of these on the brain. These classes are open to our community. If you would like to join us please contact our clinic at 850-644-2238
