Comprehensive Audiological Services
The FSU Speech & Hearing Clinic offers a comprehensive range of hearing services to address the diverse needs of its patients. Hearing loss is a common condition that can affect all ages and be caused by a variety of reasons. Per the American Academy of Audiology, 30-35% of adults between the ages of 65 and 75 and 40-50% of adults 75 years and older suffer from hearing loss. Treating hearing loss is important and can ensure that quality of life remains. Treatment of even a mild hearing impairment is important because of its effects on language development, school performance, and adult communication at home and in the work environment. The FSU graduate program in speech-language pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation In Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA; 2200 Research Blvd. #310, Rockville, MD, 20850, 1-800-638-8255; www.asha.org). The Director of Audiology Services is Dr. Selena Snowden.

Cochlear Implantation Services
As a Cochlear Provider Network member, our clinic ensures that individuals receive comprehensive care throughout the entire process, from initial evaluation and surgery to ongoing device management and rehabilitation.
- Our pre-op services begin with assessments which evaluate the sustainability of candidates for cochlear implantation. An assessment of the communication needs of our patients occurs through collaboration between audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and otolaryngologists.
- Our post-op services are dedicated to maximizing the benefits of cochlear implantation following implant surgery. A specialized team of audiologists and speech-language pathologists collaborate with patients to help them adapt to their newfound hearing capabilities. This process involves a series of assessments, mapping sessions, and intensive auditory rehabilitation programs.
- As a Cochlear Provider Network member, the audiology department of the FSU Speech and Hearing Clinic is part of a network of healthcare professionals and facilities authorized to provide services related to cochlear implants.
Our audiologists' partner with cochlear implant surgeons at Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute, UF Health Shands- Jacksonville, UF Shands- Gainsville, and the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville to provide direct referrals for access to cochlear implant surgery for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss.
